General information

The BASK website is available to members of the public to view freely. There is a restricted section that is available for view by members of BASK whose membership subscription is up to date. We endeavour at all times to comply with the current relevant laws within the EU and the UK governing Data protection.

Site content

The content of the BASK website is kept up to date and as accurate as possible. However, as the site is run on a voluntary basis and due to the speed with which developments occur in the arena of medicine, it must be appreciated that errors may occur within the site at times. As a result neither BASK nor the BASK webmaster will accept any responsibility for the accuracy of the content of the site. Users must ensure that any content is checked independently before being acted upon. Users should also be aware that the content has been written specifically with the British population in mind, therefore some aspects may not be applicable within other countries. In order to ensure accuracy of the site please inform the BASK webmaster of any errors or mistakes on the site if discovered.

Patient information and consultations

The site presents information relevant to knee surgery in Britain. However, no information will be presented concerning individual cases or problems. In addition, neither BASK nor the BASK webmaster will provide advice concerning queries about specific patient problems or complaints. In such cases individuals are recommended to seek an opinion, where appropriate, from a suitably qualified medical practitioner.

At present the BASK website uses no cookies.

Collection and use of your information

When you join as a member of BASK or register to attend a BASK conference we need to know your name, GMC number, postal address, place of work, email address, and, if not paying by direct debit, your payment details. For members of BASK additional information relevant to your practice will be collected and can be viewed / edited in your membership profile (service in design at present). We will not supply your details to any other group, organisation or third party out with the remit of BASK, without seeking your express permission in advance.

Updating your details

If any of the information that you have provided to us changes, for example if you change your email address or address, please login to your account by clicking here (service not available yet). Alternatively you may contact us directly by e-mailing the BASK webmaster; by telephoning us at 020 7406 1763; or writing to Hazel Choules, British Association for Surgery of the Knee, 35 - 43, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London. WC2A 3PE.

Website activity monitoring

We may also use aggregate information and statistics for the purposes of monitoring website usage in order to help us develop the website and our services and may provide such aggregate information to third parties. These statistics will not include information that can be used to identify any individual.

BASK surveys

From time to time we may send BASK members a request to fill in surveys concerning issues of relevance to knee surgery in Britain. They will be either created by the BASK executive or sanctioned and sent by the BASK executive at the request of a BASK member. These surveys are always voluntary to complete. Publication of only anonymised aggregated data will be made, usually on the website and/or The Knee journal. Any survey undertaken by a BASK member will only have anonymised data returned to them. We would encourage all to take part in these surveys, as higher response rates provide greater reliability in interpretation. Those not wishing to take part in these surveys can indicate their preference in their membership profile (service not available yet) or by contacting the BASK webmaster. Alternatively, as most surveys are conducted using SurveyMonkey, the Opt out option within SurveyMonkey may also be used. More details about the conduct of surveys is available within the Research section of the website.

Use of payment information / details

Security is a major issue for anyone purchasing on the Internet. You need to know that a website is legitimate, and transactions are secure before you buy. To address these issues, the BASK website uses a Digital Certificate from SagePay (system in design at present). Our secure server software uses the digital certificate to encrypt your credit or debit card number, if this payment method is used. The encryption process takes the characters you enter and converts them into bits of code which are then securely transmitted over the Internet. We also keep your information confidential. The Sage Pay security policy can be viewed at http://www.sagepay.com/security_policy.

Your consent

By submitting your information, either by joining BASK or registering at a conference, you consent to the use of that information as set out in this policy. If we change our privacy policy we will post the changes on this page, and may place notices on other pages of the website, so that you may be aware of the information we collect and how we use it at all times. Continued use of the service will signify that you agree to any such changes.
